Biography
 Assoc. Prof. José Palacios, Spain  

José Palacios obtained his MD in the University of Seville in 1981. He was a Patholgy Felow at La Paz Hopital in Madrid between 1983-1987, and obtained his PhD in the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1988. He worked as Assitant Pathologist in the Departament of Pathology at La Paz Hospital between 1988-2000, specialized in Breast and Gynecological Pathology. During this period, his research focussed on the role of molecules of the cadherin/catenin complex in the development of breast and gynecologycal cancer.
In 2000 he moved to the Spanish National Cancer Centre where he directed the Breast and Gynecological Cancer Group. Research in his group focused in the molecular characterization of breast, endometrial and ovarian cancer, with emphasis in the role of the Wnt pathway. In addition the group was interested in investigating the molecular determinats of chemotherapy response in these tumors.
José Palacios was a visiting researcher at the Pathology Department of Harbor UCLA Clinical Center, Torrance in 1990 and at the Pathology Department of the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda in 2001. Hi is an active member of the Spanish Society of Pathology (SEAP). He served as the SEAP General Secretary and as Secretary of the National Pathology Commission of the Spanish Ministry of Health between 1995-1999. He was Coordinator of the SEAP’s Immunohistochemistry Quality Control Programme and coordinated the Group of Pathologists associated with the group of Medical Oncologists GEICAM (Spanish Group of Breast Cancer Research). Since July 2006, José Palacios is Head of the Department of Pathology at Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville.
