Biography

Fernando Vidal-Vanaclocha, MD earned in 1982 at the University of Valencia School of Medicine, and PhD in 1984 at the Basque Country University. Full professor of Cell Biology and Human Histology at the Basque Country University School of Medicine.

Co-founder and senior vicepresident for preclinical sciences at INBIOMED (1996-2001), a non-for profit biomedical research foundation at the San Sebastian Technology Park, Spain. Founder and chief scientific & medical officer at Pharmakine SL (2002-2006), a Biomarker- and Drug-discovery company developing products and services for cancer metastasis research and treatment (www.pharmakine.com) at the Bizkaia Technology Park, Spain. Officer of the International Cancer Microenvironment Society. Member of the Steering Committee of the AACR Tumor Microenvironment Working Group.
His basic research focuses in organ-specific models of cancer metastasis and angiogenesis, and on the effects of inflammation, hypoxia and oxidative stress in the regulation of metastatic cancer cell behavior at target organs. His clinical research deals with the contribution of host genetics backgrounds to the functional microenvironment of metastasis-susceptible sites and the impact on the metastatic ability of cancer cells.
