I am Angie Middlehurst, Paediatric Educator at Diabetes Australia-NSW. One of my roles as Paediatric Educator is to go to schools to provide information to staff on the management of the student with type 1 diabetes at school.

Abstract

This presentation explains the differences between types 1 and 2 diabetes, what is diabetes, hypoglycaemia and its treatment, insulin injections and insulin pump management and special considerations for the student with type 1 diabetes.


Learning objectives

After viewing this presentation, the participant should:
- have a general knowledge of type 1 diabetes
- be able to recognise and treat hypoglycaemia and re-treat if necessary
- be aware of high levels and special considerations for excursions, camps and extra activity.
