Stephane De Wit graduated from medical school at the Free University of Brussels in 1981. He subsequently trained in internal medicine/infectious diseases at Saint-Pierre University hospital, Brussels (1981-1986). He has been working as infectious disease specialist in the Infectious Diseases Department of the same hospital since 1986. He obtained his PhD in 1997 on the subject of “Contribution to the study of fungal infections in HIV patients” . From 1989 to 1998 he was the Clinical Coordinator of the first European network for clinical research in HIV (European Network for the treatment of AIDS – ENTA).
Stephane De Wit is currently senior physician at the AIDS reference center of St Pierre Hospital, Brussels, Belgium. He is deputy director, AIDS activities, of the Center (Director: Prof. N. Clumeck). He is associate professor of Infectious Diseases, Master of Conference and responsible for training in clinical medicine and Internal medicine at the “Université Libre de Bruxelles”. Stephane De Wit is the Clinical Coordinator of the “Brussels Saint-Pierre Cohort” (with 2.500 patients in active follow up) and as such is representative of the cohort in international cohorts such as EUROSIDA, D:A:D and Cohere.
Stephane De Wit has been involved in AIDS research and care for the last 25 years; he is author or co-author of more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 260 presentations at international meetings and 11 chapters of books contributing to the study of HIV.
