Review recent reports on HBV reactivation in special risk groups frequently supervised by non-hepatologists
1.Assess the available evidence regarding the strategy for protection of patients at risk for HBV reactivation
2.Address open issues which require further study
1.Screening for HBV markers is mandatory in all patients scheduled for organ transplantation, dialysis, immuno or chemotherapy
2.Immunization against HBV should be completed as soon as possible before immuno-suppressive treatment (non-response must be documented)
3. HBsAg carriers, irrespective of their ALT status, should be protected against HBV reactivation by an anti-viral agent during and immediately after chemo or immunotherapy
4. Length of anti-viral therapy is not established, yet it is highly recommended to continue treatment for 6-12 months after completing chemo or immuno therapy
