ATROPHICAL VAGINITIS AND QUALITY OF LIFE AMONGST SLOVENIAN WOMEN AFTER MENOPAUSE
Premise: Gynecologists care for the reproductive health of women, more and more attention is paid to the quality of their lives.
Content: After menopause, circulating estrogen level is reduced, symptoms of atrophical vaginitis appear (1). Numerous clinical studies have confirmed the beneficial effect of local estrogen therapyon urogenital tract symptoms.
Slovenian gynecologists also assessed the efficacy and safety of local estrogen therapy of postmenopausal women with urogenital problems in the observational study \"Effects of local estrogen therapy on urogenital disorders in postmenopausal women.\"
All atrophic vaginitis symptoms observed after treatment with local 17-beta estradiol has significantly decreased. 28.1% of women reported severe symptoms before the start of treatment, 4.3% after 3 months, and after 6 months, only 1% of women reported severe symptoms.
With the goal of getting more data, gynecologists conducted a pilot project and collected
data with annonymous surveys. With 33% of women reported vaginal dryness problems
that were the cause of discomfort and pain during sexual intercourse, but only 18% of
them used local hormone medication. Apperently our patients did not tell us all of their
problems or we advised them a treatment method diffrent from local hormone therapy.
Conclusion: Slovenian gynecologists have many options for improving urogenital health and life quality of our patients.
