We audited the practice of regional anaesthesia for obstetrics in a UK teaching hospital in the year 2000 agaist the standards suggested by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. There were 6170 deliveries with LSCS rate of 23.3% and epidural rate of 29.6%. For LSCS, 97.9% of the elective and 88.5% of emergency cases were done under regional anaesthesia, which was higher than the recommended figures. The slightly increased regional to GA conversion rate we observed were due to multiple factors including a high regional technique rate and complexity of some of the cases.
